Sue MacLeman Chief Executive Officer (CEO)Sue MacLeman has extensive international senior management and leadership experience in product development and commercialization in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector. Sue graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Queensland in 1984. In addition to pharmacy qualifications, Sue MacLeman has completed a Fellowship with the Australian College of Pharmacy Practice, Masters of Marketing at Melbourne University (Melbourne Business School) and is currently enrolled in a Masters of Commercial Law at Deakin University. She is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a Director of AusBiotech Ltd. In 1991 she joined the pharmaceutical industry with Schering Plough in the biotechnology business unit. She then went on to work with Amgen Inc and Bristol Myers Squibb Pharmaceuticals in the areas of medical, marketing, sales management and business development. In 2002 she took up the position of global Vice President for Agenix Ltd where she was responsible for the product development of the molecular clot imaging project. From 2004 to 2006 she was the CEO of a publicly listed biotechnology and investment company EQiTX Ltd. She joined Benitec Ltd as CEO in September 2006. |

Dr Jason Smythe Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) Dr Jason Smythe has over 22 years research and senior management experience in Australia and USA in the biomedical and biotechnology industry sectors. His particular interest and focus has been on the clinical applications of gene-silencing technologies for the treatment of selected infectious disease and cancers. Jason graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Monash University with First Class Honours in Immunology. He completed postgraduate studies at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research for his Doctorate (PhD) in Medical Biology from the Faculty of Medicine of The University of Melbourne. In addition to his scientific qualifications Jason also has a Company Directors Diploma from The Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Graduate Certificate in Change Management (GradCertMgmt) from the Australian Graduate School of Management (Sydney). Jason performed his postdoctoral studies in the field of gene therapy for the treatment of infectious disease (specifically HIV / AIDS) initially as an NH&MRC C.J. Martin Fellow and then an Irvington Institute (New York USA) Postdoctoral Fellow in Immunology in the laboratory of Dr Robert C. Gallo, co-discoverer of the HIV/AIDS virus at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda (USA). On returning to Australia he continued this work as a Senior Scientist at Johnson & Johnson Research and then extended his research activities into anti-viral gene therapy and cancer immunobiology by founding and leading the Gene Therapy Research Unit at the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), Westmead. After 6 years at CMRI Jason joined the CSIRO Division of Molecular Science as Biotechnology Program Manager and Officer in Charge of the Division’s NSW research laboratories for 5 years, and more recently has held the position of Chief Scientific Officer of the Australian Tissue Engineering Centre Limited in Melbourne. |

John Rawling Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Company SecretaryJohn Rawling first joined Benitec at the end of 2006 as the co-company secretary and accountant and has over 20 years experience as a chartered accountant working with both International and ASX listed companies. He is also currently CFO of Polynovo Biomaterials Ltd and prior to his current roles he held the same position at EQiTX Ltd, Kentor Gold Ltd and Terrain Australia Ltd. He has also been CFO of the listed company Online Trading Systems Ltd and Finance Manager for the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. John was formally appointed to the position of Company Secretary in January 2007 and CFO in April 2007. He has recently completed a Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance. |
