Partnerships & Licensing

Benitec´s strategy is to commercialize its proprietary position in RNAi for high value biomedical and therapeutic applications. Benitec´s long term goal is the development of new therapeutics for serious diseases. Benitec will derive significant revenue from the use of ddRNAi (expressed RNAi) in the drug discovery process as well as its use as a therapeutic itself. Therapeutics will be developed both in-house and through commercial partnerships and collaborations.

The financing of Benitec's growth and clinical development programs will be supported by internally generated revenues, partnerships and collaborations and from market offerings. Anticipated revenues will be generated from the:

  • Non-exclusive "freedom to operate" research licenses to for-profit entities
  • Non-exclusive licenses to innovative life-science reagent companies
  • Non-exclusive licenses for the creation of transgenic animals
  • Commercial licenses by Benitec for the delivery of ddRNAi based drugs and therapies for specific genes and/or disease targets.

The breadth of application and ease of use of Benitec's ddRNAi platform technology is being rapidly recognized by leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and research institutes. With dominant intellectual property for DNA-directed RNAi (ddRNAi), Benitec offers freedom to operate through licensing and partnering arrangements with companies and research institutes seeking to use its technology for functional genomics, drug development and other applications.

Any commercial entity interested in obtaining a license for commercial use of ddRNAi should contact licensing@benitec.com.

Plant and Animal Biotechnology Licenses

ddRNAi has applications in plant improvement and the generation of disease and pest-resistant crops and livestock. Rights to ddRNAi methods and compositions in non-human animals and plants are owned by Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). Information on licensing opportunities can be found online at http://www.pi.csiro.au/RNAi/
